About the team


Metro West is a new 24 km underground metro which includes nine new stations, stabling and maintenance facility and precast yards.

The Tunnel Packages runs from Westmead through into Hunter Street.

It is a complex project, with many significant stakeholders and unique challenges, connecting the Central River City to the heart of Sydney CBD.

It is a once in a generation, city shaping project which will change how people live and work in Sydney.


The opportunity
We have three Construction Director positions available on the Sydney Metro West Tunnel & Civil Engineering Package.

The Tunnel Packages (Eastern Tunnel Package, Central Tunnel Package, Western Tunnel Package) run from Westmead through into Hunter Street connecting the Central River City to the heart of Sydney CBD.


Focusing on significant stakeholder management and unique challenges, you will lead the delivery of construction activities in a geographical area along the ETP, CTP, WTP alignments.

Leading a small team, you will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of this mega project.

You will also work with our tier 1 contractors and service providers to deliver complex works in a collaborative and cooperative manner, to support subsequent construction activities and to ensure the timely and effective delivery of the project.


The role provides management, technical and commercial input in the construction of the works and monitors activities to ensure that works are delivered to the required standards and in accordance with safe work methods and environmental practices.


About you
You have a background in working on multi-hundreds or million-billion dollar infrastructure projects. Previous experience in the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects is essential.

Modelling excellent leadership, you have a track record in driving optimal project development and engineering decisions made through the promotion of a culture of collaboration, innovation and creativity across the delivery teams.

Strong commercial acumen is essential and previous experience in tunnel construction (TBM and Road header) will be highly regarded.


As the projects is delivered in an environment of intense scrutiny from the public and media, your interpersonal and influencing skills will support you in negotiating successful outcomes.

You understand the balance of addressing customer requirements whilst adhering to other regulatory, policy, government and operational conditions.

You will bring experience managing competing and complex demands to ensure timely delivery of projects considering quality, safety, cost efficiencies and timeframes and assessing variations while resolving conflicts and priorities.


In this dynamic role, you will enjoy being challenged by the complexity and variety of this world class tunnelling project and take pride in your ability to find solutions where others only see problems.


Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Construction or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the structure of public and private transport industries in NSW, associated legislation and safety standards
  • This position is identified as a Rail Safety Worker (RSW)

Salary and Benefits
This is a Transport Senior Service (TSSE1B) fixed-term full-time position until end of 2025, offering an attractive remuneration package.
