About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced defence security professional to work as an International & Defence Security Officer at the University of Melbourne.

The role involves contributing to a diverse program of activities to support the wider governance framework, and playing a key role in supporting compliance with the requirements of the Defence Industry Security Program and other associated national and international safeguard mechanisms.

You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance operations and alignment with University Policy and Australian best practice, and have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

You will be an integral member of the team, supporting this diverse portfolio and bringing consistency and cohesion in approach.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical advice to a range of stakeholders for strategic decisionmaking, and any associated security implications, and support and be accountable to the CSO in meeting any operational requirements;
  • Ensure sensitive and classified materials held by the University have appropriate safeguard measures in place, maintain the Designated Security Assessed Position (DSAP) list, manage Personnel Security Clearance requests, report change of circumstances and vulnerabilities of clearance holders;
  • Act as liaison point with the Department of Defence and other key stakeholders to ensure adoption of preventative measures and effective execution of management plans, including reporting security and fraud incidents and contact reports, in accordance with Defence policy.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for people who can manage priorities effectively and work collaboratively with our internal and external stakeholders.


You will also have:

  • A trackrecord of implementing and delivering governance, policy and reporting outputs under direction;
  • Proven capability to provide successful serviceorientated administration and support, demonstrating initiative, organisation and attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement;
  • Eligible to complete the Introduction to DISP training course and the SO training course
  • May be required to work from multiple locations and outside normal hours during peak periods.
