About the role


As part of an organisation dedicated to improving the health of all South Australians, you will be responsible for managing the care of all hyperacute (<24 hours duration) stroke patients in consultation with the responsible Consultants, Nurses and Allied Health professionals.

You will maintain a high standard of patient care for stroke and TIA inpatients and outpatients, whether admitted under the Stroke Unit or when consulting for patients admitted under other units.

You will provide effective and accurate clinical handover of patient care at the change of daily shifts and at the change of clinical attachment.

You will actively contribute to research, continuous quality improvement and in continuing education activities, including assisting in the supervision of medical students, Interns and Junior Medical Officers.

While this position will largely be within the acute stroke unit, some general neurology contribution will be required. Some exposure to Endovascular Stroke Therapy and other Endovascular Neurointerventional Procedures can be potentially negotiated.


It is essential that you hold a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and be registered with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.

You will have completed Basic Physician Training and will demonstrate the ability to communicate confidently and appropriately with patients and their family/relatives.

You will possess sound knowledge of contemporary medical practice and procedures appropriate to the position, complementing your ability to work under pressure.

In addition to proven competency in a range of routine and common procedural ward-based skills, you will be a demonstrated problem solver.

You will be supported in devising and complete a stroke research project in your year. Subsequent higher degree by research opportunities will ensue.
