    NOC Engineer - Optical Transmission & IP

Soda Infrastructure has a strong record of developing, owning and operating large-scale submarine infrastructure in the Australasia region, which has provided critical digital gateways to Asia, North America and EMEA. Over the last five years, the company has amassed a formidable portfolio of submarine infrastructure and – with the latest transcontinental cable project which will connect Sydney, Melbourne (Torquay), Adelaide and Perth (SMAP) – will be approaching $750m of investment.

    Role Purpose

    As NOC Engineer, you will work directly with the Network Operations Manager, overseeing our suite of complex network components. You'll be responsible for network management, perform troubleshooting procedures and ensure the seamless delivery and maintenance of the network, servers, and infrastructure. You will own the customer experience from wholesale to retail service providers, ensuring effective and efficient response, support, and delivery. Finally, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of operational tasks across the NOC, including monitoring, logging and diagnostics, enrichment, management, and resolution of all tickets (including change control) during the shift period. Importantly, you will also be responsible for meeting all KPI and service level requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee and configure our suite of telecommunications networks and computer systems
    • Proactively identify potential network performance issues, developing strategies to rectify issues before they become events and incidents
    • Monitor all critical infrastructure, including fibre, transmission, switch/routing assets and inventory spares
    • Lead troubleshooting efforts within our international NOC, diagnosing, and resolving incidents to minimise their impact on our network and customers' services
    • Investigate network alerts, hardware malfunctions and any outages planned and unplanned
    • Ensure all incidents and resolutions are accurately recorded within our service management system for post-incident analysis and compliance
    • Analyse past incidents and identify patterns or improvement opportunities, proposing changes, upgrades, for more efficient NOC procedures that contribute to prevention of future faults and enhancement of our incident management processes
    • Provide accurate communication of recovery actions and progress updates to Customers and internal stakeholders
    • Lead incident recovery actions whilst maintaining performance to service levels
    • Manage and/or support network change activities ensuring network integrity remains intact post change completion
    • Maintain existing documentation, fault management and change management standards.
    • Create reports and provide commentary on operational progress/reports for staffing, network performance, PIR's and departmental objectives.
    • Collaborate with the NOC and Technology teams on planning and implementing updates, patches, or configuration changes enhancing our network performance and any restoration efforts

    About you

    • NV1 Clearance or satisfies the requirements to obtain NV1 clearance
    • Qualification in Telecommunications Engineering and or currently in training for full qualification
    • Knowledge of a global telecoms environment with a general understanding of broadband internet, router, switches and optical transmission systems
    • Understanding of Transmission/Long-haul/Subsea/Optical Networks
    • Ability to manage the resolution of Incidents across the full range of supported services, specialising in IP and Transmission technologies
    • Ability to work across various network hardware systems including Cisco, Ciena, Nokia, and packet optical/DWDM systems
    • Experience with routing protocols, network design, wireless network design and implementation
    • Experience troubleshooting network performance issues in a large-scale and complex network environment
    • Understanding of IP Networks (MPLS/BGP)
    • Firewalls, switches, routers and other network equipment (Cisco, Fortinet)
    • ITIL V3 knowledge, Service Operations & Service Transition
    • Use of service management systems for network incident, Network change, Service incident and Problem management
    • Experience with Maintenance Delivery process and management of MOPs
    • Experience with Access, Control and security compliance at facilities
    • Knowledge of Data Centre environments rack management, powering, temperature related management
    • Experience with Network Event Management process and systems
