About the role
We are seeking to appoint a full-time fixed term Associate to support Her Honour Judge Brimer. Her Honour is the Judge in Charge of the Arbitration List and currently sits in the Court's Commercial Division. Her Honour is a Vice-President of VCAT.

The County Court of Victoria has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in Victoria.

The Court hears over 12,000 cases per year across the Criminal, Common Law and Commercial Divisions.

Since 1 January 2007, the County Court has had an unlimited monetary jurisdiction in civil matters. The County Court has concurrent jurisdiction with the Supreme Court in almost all commercial litigation.

Following the removal of the monetary limit on the Court's jurisdiction and the appointment of additional judges with commercial expertise, the commercial work of the court has grown in both size and complexity, with over 2,000 commercial initiations per year.

The work of the Commercial Division now constitutes approximately 45% of the Court's civil jurisdiction.

As the Associate you will provide operational, administrative, and technical legal support to the Judge both in chambers and in court.

The role involves case file management, a strong emphasis on communication at all levels, legal research and writing.

Relevant qualifications are essential.
