This position sits within the Transport, Insights and Evidence Branch of the Policy, Precincts and Innovation Group at the Department of Transport and Planning.

The Transport Insights & Evidence branch drives value through planning, decision-making, operational performance and customer outcomes by supporting and delivering high quality data, models, analytics, insights, forecasting and evaluation across the portfolio.

It is a centre for excellence for transport data, modelling, economic evaluation and analytics, providing the evidence base to assess current and future network performance, and evaluate strategic interventions.


About the Role

  • The role provides a great opportunity to make a contribution to demand and economic assessment on a range of Victorian road and public transport initiatives providing for Victoria's future transport needs. You will be able to enhance the understanding of the value of transport initiatives by developing and reviewing assessment frameworks and undertaking analysis. You will partner with teams delivering business cases and strategic assessments and have the chance to work on contemporary topics in economic assessment including contributing to policy guidance at state and national levels._


The purpose of the role is to provide sound project appraisal advice and stakeholder support relating to transport project and policy demand forecasting and economic analysis.


Position Outcomes

  • Manage and provide robust and timely economic analysis on transport projects and policies
  • Research and develop methodologies for complex and emerging topics in project appraisal
  • Develop transport modelling and economic analysis tools, processes and guidelines to enhance team understanding and proficiency with economic analysis advice
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts and appraisal findings to a nontechnical audience
  • Procure and manage consultant contracts for TAM branch services in line with DTP procurement policies and standards
  • Provide business partnering services to internal DTP stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Economics or equivalent study in economics or a related field

Desirable

  • A higher degree in Economics, Planning, Statistics or Geography would be well regarded
