The Bureau is seeking to build an Agriculture and Water Decision Support Team that will deliver operational services to the agriculture (including fisheries) and water sectors, with an initial focus on agriculture.


The Agriculture and Water Decision Support Specialist (DSS), under the direction of the Decision Support Team Lead, is responsible for providing specialist meteorology, hydrology, oceanography and/or climatology decision support to agriculture and water customers.


The role supports effective decision-making in relation to weather, water, oceans and climate that enhances our customers' effectiveness and productivity.

The role is not only a technical expert but is also a trusted advisor to the customer, providing simplified interpretation through well communicated expert advice.

Deep knowledge of meteorology, hydrology, oceanography and/or climatology is essential and an appreciation or knowledge of the agricultural sector and/or water sectors is highly desirable.


The DSS Specialist role responds positively to the fact that their advice informs decisions with significant impact consequences for customers.

Accordingly, the applicant will be a communicator with well-developed interpersonal and relationship management skills.

They will be a collaborator, committed to providing value and impact to agriculture and water sector customers in service of the Bureau Strategy.
