Description

As an Inquiry Secretary, you will be responsible for leading and contributing to a range of projects to support and improve the operation of the Committee Office.

You will also act as the principal adviser, analyst and writer for a committee in respect of an inquiry or statutory oversight function.

You will organise meetings, hearings and other requirements for an inquiry or oversight function, and assist committees to conduct inquiries and publish findings.

You will also assist committees to fulfil their responsibilities for oversight of independent entities and publish associated reports.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Proven ability to research, analyse and evaluate complex problems, and develop strategic recommendations for their resolution.
  • A high level of written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to draft clear, concise and persuasive reports, briefing notes, speeches and media releases.
  • Demonstrated high level of oral communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders, such as committee members, ministers, senior public servants, experts and members of the public.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, under pressure and to tight deadlines, while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of parliamentary processes and procedures, particularly in relation to committee Inquiries and oversight functions, or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and guidelines governing the operation of parliamentary committees, or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly.
