Overview

The Women's and Children's Health Network (WCHN) provides state of the art health care for women and children in Adelaide and South Australia.

We are the state's leading provider of specialist care for children with acute and chronic conditions and SA's largest maternity and obstetric service.

We also provides important community-based services of which Child and Family Health Service (CaFHS), Child Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and Metropolitan Youth Health are an integral part.

Each year, more than 30,000 people are admitted and about 5000 babies are born at the Women's and Children's Hospital.

In addition more than 250,000 people come to the hospital as outpatients.

We have an exciting ongoing opportunity in the Biomedical Engineering team for the Manager's role. This role is responsible for the strategic organisational biomedical engineering management and leadership.

About the Role

The primary objective of the Biomedical Engineering (BME) department is to assure the safety, effectiveness, availability and compliance of biomedical technology used directly for patient diagnosis, treatment or monitoring for or in connection with the public hospital and healthcare facilities of SA Health.

The key priorities for this role in our organisation are:

  • Determine, prioritise, lead and manage statewide WCHN biomedical engineering strategies, service delivery programs and mechanisms to meet current and future clinical demands within the framework of the Department's corporate goals and discipline standards.
  • Initiate, lead and advise on new technologies for politically sensitive and high profile biomedical engineering maintenance and replacement programs, major investigations and business cases of local, national and international interest.
  • Lead and manage the assessment of Statewide WCHN biomedical engineering services to deliver and implement evidence based performance improvement and evaluation strategies with appropriate staffing structures, financial necessities, and engineering support modalities.
  • Determine, develop and oversee a high level risk identification and mitigation program related to the safety, effectiveness, availability, compliance and support of biomedical devices across all WCHN sites.
  • Determine, establish, lead and manage the implementation of innovative strategies for the scheduled maintenance of critical biomedical equipment across the WCH network including regional community sites and private homes.
  • Develop policies and provide professional biomedical engineering consultation and strategic leadership across the region and state for the management, purchase and use of biomedical devices.

We are looking for a post graduate qualified engineer (PO5 Classification) who has eligible for full membership into an appropriate professional body who has extensive biomedical engineering leadership and practical management experience with respect to business planning, people management, performance management, financial management, technical management and professional guidance.

Ideally, you would also have extensive experience in providing senior level technical advisory and consultation services that recognise the position as a technical specialist, both within the public sector and externally, especially through the production and delivery of presentations, reports, submissions and recommendations at a state and national level.

Do you have the:

  • Demonstrated capacity to provide strategic advice and professional direction in determining, prioritising and developing very complex biomedical engineering programs and strategies including allocating resources and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes under general policy direction.
  • Demonstrated effective communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills with a range of hospital staff, suppliers and service agents, with welldeveloped capability in initiating and managing beneficial networks and relationships and resolving conflict constructively to ensure no adverse consequences to the quality of client services or the working relationship.
If yes, and this sounds like the next strep in your rewarding career, we strongly encourage you to apply.
