The Organisation


Parkville Institute (Institute) is a not for profit research and practice institute established to support service providers to implement intensive early childhood education and care programs for young children living with significant family stress and social disadvantage.

The Institute has secured government and private funding to support its research and practice programs.


As a start-up not for profit/social enterprise their vision is to ensure children experiencing adversity will enjoy the same life trajectories as their peers.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Directors, this role is critical to enacting the organisation's purpose and goals. In this position, you will be joining and supporting a small team of committed, experienced and enthusiastic staff.

The General Manager's role is to manage the operations of Parkville Institute in order to support its research and practice programs.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overall operational and financial management and acquittals
  • Supporting the development of new fundraising initiatives
  • Managing compliance with legal/governance requirements
  • General office administration and management including working with external suppliers
  • Stakeholder management collaboration with Executive Directors and the Board
  • Supporting the Executive Directors to implement the research and practice programs including communications and engagement activities
  • Secretariat support for the Board including preparation of Board papers, minute taking and advising on financial, project, policy and risk matters
Skills Required


Parkville Institute is seeking to appoint an experienced general manager / operations manager with experience of working to a strategic plan and project management skills, a decisive and hands on leader.

You will have highly developed strategic planning skills and a proven track record supporting organisations from start-up phase or pioneering new programs.


Additionally, you will offer:

  • Demonstrated success in actioning business plans and implementing innovative solutions
  • Experience delivering sound financial management and operational excellence
  • Persuasive, influential and energetic leadership skills and the ability to manage complexity
  • Expertise managing high level stakeholders and achieving community engagement
  • Adaptive communication skills enabling effective advocacy and representation
  • High levels of emotional intelligence and inner confidence; an aptitude for continuous learning and the ability to work collaboratively
