About the Team


The Rheinmetall Defence Australia (RDA) Training team is responsible for the design and delivery of high volume, complex training solutions to the Australian Defence Forces and other customers, across the range of RDA products.


About the Role


The Instructional Designer - Technical Training is a qualified tradesperson and training design specialist responsible for conducting the Analysis and Design phases of the ADDIE instructional systems design framework.

This includes the conduct of Performance Needs Analysis and the development of technical training recommendations for the customer, and the development of Learning Management Packages specific to ADF maintenance training.

Given the nature of RDA's offerings across LAND 400 and the requirements of this role, it is essential that the successful applicant has a relevant technical background.

This will allow the successful applicant to influence the technical training content and to offer a best-practice training solution to the customer and end users.


  • As Instructional Designer
  • Technical, you can anticipate some of your daytoday tasks to include:
  • Following the Systems Approach to Defence Learning (SADL) process to design maintainer training;
  • Production of Performance Needs Analysis and Design deliverables, in accordance with the relevant contract;
  • Incorporate adult learning principles, bespoke elearning resources, parttask trainers, simulation and additional training equipment into technical training in a way that is measured and meaningful;
  • Writing Learning Management Packages that will be used by the customer to deliver L400 maintenance training;
  • Developing functional relationships and maintaining close liaison with the Commonwealth and support contract training teams;
  • Oversight of the delivery of maintainer trial courses and their evaluation;
  • Attend RDA convened conferences, meetings and activities associated with the training subprogram;
  • Attend Commonwealth convened conferences, meetings and activities including Learning Review (LRB) and Learning Implementation Boards (LIB) and Training Development Workshops;
  • Engage with SMEs and stakeholders to establish and communicate learning objectives and to understand technical data;
  • Provide guidance to maintenance training instructors; and
  • Provide input into the Training System program body of work, including review of training documentation, contribution to planning, attendance at project related activities as part of the training team.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:

  • Relevant trade qualification, such as Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent;
  • Training Design experience, Diploma of Training Design and Development, or currently undertaking or having the ability to undertake an equivalent course;
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE 40116);
  • Indepth knowledge of Adult Learning Theories;
  • Specialist level working knowledge of the Systems Approach to Defence Learning (SADL);
  • Familiarity with ADF Trade Training;
  • Ability to travel interstate and internationally when required; and
  • Able to regularly work in alternate locations, in Australia or overseas, for up to 4 week's duration.
