Where you'll be working:

The NSW Statewide Infant Screening Hearing (SWISH) Program aims to identify all babies born in NSW with significant permanent bilateral hearing loss by three months of age, and for those children to be able to access appropriate intervention by six months of age.

Identification of significant hearing loss is achieved through universal hearing screening of all newborns. About one to two in every 1,000 babies has significant hearing loss.


The SWISH program aims to identify babies born with significant hearing loss and link them to appropriate services as soon as possible after birth.


About the role:

Lead, manage, and monitor a coordinated approach for the operations and staff of the SWISH Strategy to ensure that all newborns identified are screened for hearing loss within the Southern HNELHD and performance indicators are met.


  • You will oversee the SWISH screeners and refer infants who do not pass the twostage AABR screening to diagnostic audiology
  • You provide support to parents during and after the screen
  • You will maintain strong links and partnerships with nursing, general practitioners, medical specialist, audiologists, and early intervention and coordination services including Australian Hearing and other government and nongovernment organisations
  • You will be supported by the Deputy Director of Nursing and Midwifery and administrative staff within the unit

Requirements:


  • Registered Nurse/Midwife with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA
  • Postgraduate qualification in clinical leadership or management or currently working toward same
  • Holds an Audiometry Certificate or working towards same
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness and ability to travel across the LHD when required

  • You are capable of ensuring timely and appropriate screening and followup of all newborns in Southern HNELHD
  • You are a dedicated team leader with strong communication and problemsolving skills, with a passion for providing effective support to parents during and after the diagnostic audiology screen
