As an Innovation Manager, you are passionate about identifying new opportunities and using technology to solve problems and create exceptional experiences that will delight our customers.

Sitting within the Emerging Technology Customer Innovation Team, you will perform the role of a Product Owner.

You will work closely with portfolio Innovation Leads, Engineers, Designers, and internal stakeholders to help design and successfully deliver products that challenge the status quo.

You will have the opportunity to own the product backlog, prioritise feature delivery and lead a team to achieve its goals at pace.

The Emerging Technology team sits within the Group Technology Division of the Commonwealth Bank and exists to "accelerate the discovery and delivery of the products and platforms that will power the bank of tomorrow".

The team delivers on its mission by executing a portfolio of innovation initiatives, which are focused on designing, experimenting, and building new products for Business Banking customers.

To deliver their work the team engages and collaborates with an innovation ecosystem comprising of the Group's technology partners, consulting houses and internal Business Units.

This enables the team to identify and understand the latest technology and customer trends and uncover opportunities to develop new products and experiences for customers.

This role sits within Customer Innovation (Emerging Technology) reporting to the Business Banking Innovation Lead.


Your key responsibilities

  • Execute Core Product Management: Working with the Innovation Leads, identify and solve customer problems, manage roadmaps, product backlogs, and releases.
  • Lead Delivery of Initiatives: Management and delivery of innovation initiatives from end to end e.g., from sourcing and procurement with new vendors, to managing cross functional squads (including engineers and designers) to execute on strategy.
  • Perform the role of a

Product Owner:

Manage the product backlog and work closely with the Scrum Master on Sprint Planning, and track squad performance, resolve blockers and improve delivery velocity.


  • Ensure Cohesiveness: Act as the conduit between Engineering, Design, Product and business stakeholders, to communicate progress, articulate puzzles and ensure alignment across team members.
  • Review and

Monitor Results:
Measure and monitor product and feature success, using these metrics to inform feature improvements and prioritisation.

  • Strong Stakeholder Management and Communication: Structure effective communications which take complex concepts or initiatives and articulates them in a way that is simple and easy to understand by all stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Identify, articulate and manage risks and conflicts across various streams of work.
  • Proof of

Concept Development:

Support with the development of hypotheses and experiments the team must deliver to validate a product's customer desirability, technical feasibility or business viability.


  • Develop the Practice: Develop the Emerging Technology Product Practice and ways of working, to continually advance our craft and evolve the tools and techniques we use in our work, and role model the Emerging Technology Team Principles and Values.

We are interested to hear from people who have:


  • Preferred, from 3 years of digital product management experience with demonstrated experience working with engineering and design functions, and cross functional squads.
  • Strong Agile delivery track record, across products and/or enterprise transformational programs of work.
  • Experience across the full product lifecycle, from ideation through to design, through to delivery of new digital experiences and products.
  • A hustler, cando attitude a strategic and creative mindset, that thrives under pressure, operates well with ambiguity, and has the resilience to solve puzzles no one at the Bank has solved before.
  • A keen interest in technology and customer trends and their potential impact on the future of the Bank and how it serves customers.
  • Ability to balance technical, business and organisational perspectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • An ability to learn quickly and take personal initiative to complete tasks.
