The Role

The tasks undertaken at AGO Bendigo are geospatial in nature and include the production, management and dissemination of Foundation Geospatial-Intelligence data and products.


As a Geospatial Trainee you will undertake basic geospatial tasks utilising real world data and current GIS software within an integrated workforce and will develop an understanding of and comply with relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.


As a trainee you may be required to undertake a range of procedural and administrative support and operational tasks to support your team and work unit, contribute to team discussions to achieve outcomes and will seek assistance when required.

The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) makes a critical contribution to protect the lives and safety of Australians at home and overseas by providing accurate and timely geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) to support decision makers at all levels.

The geospatial intelligence we provide is recognised as a critical element supporting Australia's National Security and Defence interests.

AGO Bendigo produces, manages and disseminates Foundation Geospatial-Intelligence Data and offers a unique opportunity to develop a challenging and rewarding Geospatial career.


Your training will enable you to be employed across a number of work-areas within the organisation including; cartography, photogrammetry, data acquisition, data management, data dissemination through web services and multinational co-production programs, all while enjoying the benefits of regional living in central Victoria.


You will start your training at our unclassified building, after you have received a Positive Vetting security clearance you will move to our classified building to complete the training program.


  • Be willing to live and work in Bendigo and enjoy the benefits of regional living whilst by providing accurate and timely foundation geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) to support decision makers at all levels.
  • Be flexible, selfmotivated and resourceful.
  • Have an attention to detail and be able to identify and provide solutions to complex problems.
  • Possess good communication skills and work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Develop innovative approaches to a variety of technical tasks.
  • Be required to undertake a Defence Intelligence Suitability Assessment and be assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Positive Vetting Level security clearance.
