This position's primary purpose is to optimise nursing performance and engagement across the Oncology Australia network, supporting our nursing teams to provide consistent and high-quality care to our patients, and enable nursing best practice across the network.


This role also has a focus on providing operational specialist expertise relating to Medical Oncology & Haematology services to deliver high quality patient care.

The role will lead Medical Oncology & Haematology operations in the local market by adopting global best practice and operational efficiency.


What you'll do:
National Nursing Leadership

  • Develop strategies to drive performance and best practice in nursing in order to achieve our purpose of delivering superior care for our patients that achieves the best possible life outcomes
  • Implement completion of Nursing priorities and deliverables aligned to the Oncology Australia business plan
  • Provide professional leadership and expert knowledge to Directors of Nursing nationally, and drives collaboration, consistency and best practice nationally, including through leadership of the Nursing Leadership Forum
  • Lead the design and implementation of efficient & effective workflow and patient care processes across Nursing, to ensure our nursing teams are effective and consistent across the network
Continuous Improvement & Best Practice

  • Lead continuous improvement by researching and implementing best practice models of work performance and use benchmarking to evaluate ongoing nursing performance across Genesis Care
  • Leads clinical governance across Genesis Care through the development and implementation of Policies, Guidelines and Procedures that ensure a high quality of care across the network in line with industry standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to progress the development of innovative models of care for nursing services that place the patient at the centre
  • Oversee the implementation of new Nursing procedures or programs and works closely with General Managers to build a positive and effective working environment for our nursing teams.
  • Support General and Operational Managers with strategic workforce planning through the development of systems and resources which support effective FTE and rostering across the network
  • Proactively contribute to the referrer engagement strategy across Medical Oncology & Haematology services including review of referral data, tracking of KPI and development of growth opportunities.
  • Assist with development of patient education programs that are in line with strategic direction; leveraging these programs to support market expansion
Quality and Safety leadership

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of legislative, Department of Health, and Medicare requirements, as well as compliance and accreditation requirements, to ensure all services meet all the requirements of clinical safety, licensing, regulatory standards, accreditation guidelines, and satisfy internal / external audits.
  • Manage risk and actively work towards implementing risk reduction strategies. Provide input into risk management reviews as it relates to patient safety, the performance of risk assessment in the expansion of new imaging procedures, new products, and the interpretation of patient safety
  • Review quality Standards for Medical Oncology & Haematology including implementation and ongoing compliance for Quality risk management practices, Personnel, Premises and equipment & Documentation
Reporting & Information Management

  • Lead the development and maintenance of appropriate accountability and communication structures within the Nursing practice group
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support to General Managers and key stakeholders on their responsibilities in the management of nursing services in their practice
  • Provide national analysis and trending through reporting monthly and quarterly as required to support transparency and mitigate risks
  • Support effective procurement processes and resource allocation for the nursing function.
  • Communicate progress on achievement of Nursing strategy and priorities to Oncology Australia Leadership Team, Clinical Management Committee, Clinical Leaders Forum, and Nursing Leadership Forum.
  • Provide education and medical support for Medical Oncology & Haematology within the Australian oncology business

Who you are:

  • Qualified Registered nurse with a current practicing certificate issued by AHPRA
  • Relevant experience in a Nurse Unit Manager, Director of Nursing or similar national operations role, in similarsized organisation
  • Knowledge of legislation and accreditation related to operations of Medical Oncology and Haematology
