Specialist Consultant in ENT - Sessional


As Australia's only specialist eye, ear, nose and throat hospital, The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital's (the Eye and Ear) has been providing care for the senses for over 150 years.

The Eye and Ear has over 50 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24 hour emergency eye and ear, nose, and throat service.

The Eye and Ear provides care annually for around 250,000 patients, with over 200,000 outpatients, nearly 40,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients.


  • Services are also provided in community settings, such as ENT specialist clinic at Taralye in Blackburn (an early intervention centre for deaf children and their families) and an audiology/ENT specialist clinic for Aboriginal children at the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) in Fitzroy. Telehealth facilities have been established with a number of regional and rural health services across Victoria.

About the Role

  • An opportunity exists for suitably qualified FRACS or equivalent otorhinolaryngologist(s) to join our ENT Unit to provide excellent care to adult and paediatric patients throughout Melbourne and surrounds.
  • You will join the current 40+ VMOs in our ENT specialist clinics and participate in the afterhours oncall roster. You will also supervise, mentor and teach our Junior Medical Staff and students.
  • The role may be offered to more than one applicant with clinical sessions ranging from Otology, Head & Neck and Acute ENT and our specialised Emergency Department.
  • Applicants must be registerable with the Medical Board of Australia and hold Fellowship of the Australasian College of Surgeons in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
  • Start date negotiable with a view to commence by July / August 2023.
