About the role

The primary purpose of the position is the management and provision of high quality clinical coding data and providing expert advice in the area of clinical classification and Activity Based Funding (ABF).

It will provide advice and guidance as well as analytical support enabling key stakeholders to make informed decisions within the ABF framework to drive the implementation of ABF principles at the point of care ensuring that all aspects of recording and management of activity is optimised in order to ensure best practice, patient safety and appropriate funding.

This position will also facilitate modifications to clinical documentation to support appropriate reimbursement in the level of service rendered to patients.

About you

  • Knowledge in Clinical Coding, Activity Based Funding, and how clinical coding and data quality contributes to the organisations Service Agreement.
  • Leadership and management skills to effectively manage a team in achieving high quality coding, within specified time frames, and in accordance Australian Coding Standards.
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively influence and lead a team whilst managing the impact of organisational change promoting the organisations mission and values.
  • Skills and experience in the provision of training, mentoring, and coaching Clinical, Coding and Administrative staff.
  • Knowledge of quality human resource management practices including workplace health and safety, employment equity, antidiscrimination, and ethical behaviour.

Mandatory Requirements:


  • While not mandatory a degree in Health Information Management or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Successful completion of the Advanced Clinical Coding/Auditor course and/or five or more years' experience in a similar role would be highly desirable.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
