Consultant, Group Development (Mergers & Acquisitions) within our Strategy and Innovation division.


The role


As a Consultant, Group Development (GD), you will primarily work with GD team members on acquisitions and divestments, strategic projects, and performance improvement initiatives.

You will support GD colleagues in the day to day running of Mergers and Acquisition projects by providing support to major workstreams of work.

To do this, you will be proactive, able to manage multiple streams of work and maintain a strong customer focus and demonstrate an ability to support junior colleagues.


Your opportunity

  • Support the transaction lead in the daytoday support of M&A projects with opportunities to lead specific aspects of projects where able, including:
  • Drafting external documents and marketing materials
  • Engaging with the relevant business divisions or support functions in NAB as well as external advisers and external parties on a daytoday basis
  • Drafting and assisting with internal approval documents and processes where required
  • Provide general project management support to senior team members
  • Undertake analytical activities including gathering data, structuring and performing robust strategic analysis and financial modelling to support strategic decision making i

e:

  • Assist in the design and build of valuation and financial models
  • Support the evaluation of strategic options & fit of potential acquisition targets
  • Assist in setting the scope and managing due diligence processes
  • Support the strategic planning and investment process
  • Support strategic reviews of major business units within the Group and the assessment of organic and inorganic growth opportunities
  • Assist in the development of clear and compelling business presentations or reports for senior executive audiences (Executive Leadership Team, CEO, Board)
  • Participate in strategic projects and initiatives across the Group as required, including Strategy & Innovation initiatives
  • Proactively develop an understanding of the financial services industry, including monitoring financial services sector market trends and developments

What you will bring
-
Minimum 3-4 years' experience ideally in Corporate Development, Investment/Mergers Acquisitions (and/or similar related), gained either at an investment bank, in a consulting firm, in-house with a large corporate or equivalent (previous financial services experiences is highly regarded)

  • Structured problem solving and analysis skills, including quantitative modelling
  • Advanced ability to create compelling, structured business presentations
  • An innate curiosity to dig into the 'why', a positive, cando attitude and a strong motivation for continuous learning and development and contributing back to the team
  • Demonstrated experience in providing commercial and pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to think on your feet and to communicate and influence up and down business stream (both verbally and in writing)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification required, and a post graduate qualification (preferably Master of Finance, CA, CFA, SIA or equivalent) would be highly regarded
