V/Line, as a brand, has provided public transport services to regional Victoria for over 30 years. Each week, V/Line schedules more than 2,000 train services between Melbourne and regional Victoria.

As well as being a public transport operator, V/Line also leases, provides access to, and maintains over 3,520 kilometres of rail track used by passengers and freight rail operators.

V/Line Corporation is a major employer with a workforce of over 3,000 staff including many who live and work in regional Victoria.


Reporting to the Director Workplace Relations, as Head of Workplace Relations you will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of V/Line's industrial relations agenda.

This includes direct involvement in enterprise bargaining, dispute resolution and management of both organisational and government stakeholders.


You will provide direction and leadership in the development and promotion of best practice bargaining strategies and workplace relations across V/Line, with a focus on driving positive outcomes.

You will have an integral role in liaising, influencing and working closely with various sector unions and consulting with key Victorian Government stakeholders.

Being a proactive leader, the role will require advice and insight on risk mitigation, legislation and proceedings before the Fair Work Commission.

Importantly you will act as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team to identify and mitigate risks relevant to V/Line.

Additionally, you will have remit for critical stakeholder reporting requirements.


Key to your success in this role will be your senior leadership experience within blue collar, high union-density environments, ideally in a government bodies or departments.

This can include exposure to rail, road, construction, maritime and alike sectors.

You will have demonstrated experience developing and implementing best practice approaches to EBA related matters, including experience with industrial action and appearing in high-risk Fair Work Commission matters.


Applicants will be highly regarded for an ability to develop constructive relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, resolving conflict and managing sensitivities within constrained timeframes, and ability to effectively negotiate to achieve outcomes.

You are considered an engaging, agile and highly motivated leader who can lead cross-portfolio teams and work with staff at different levels across organisation.

Tertiary qualifications in Legal, Audit or Business will be highly regarded.
