AGS is seeking expressions of interest for Legal Support roles in our Canberra office.

Legal Administrative Assistants (APS3)

As a Legal Administrative Assistant, you will:

  • take an active role in assisting our lawyers to deliver a high standard of legal services to our clients
- assist with the preparation of court and tribunal documents and other correspondence
- maintain legal files and assist with client enquiries
- manage lawyers' diaries and travel
- ensure administrative procedures such as client billing and reporting comply with relevant AGS requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • good attention to detail and a professional approach
- a genuine commitment and ability to deliver high quality client service
- good written and verbal communication skills and judgement
- good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once
- the ability to be flexible and work as part of a team
- good judgement and the ability and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
- an interest in undertaking training and development to learn new skills.


Legal Assistants (APS4)

As a Legal Assistant, you will:

  • take an active role in assisting our lawyers and other legal support staff to deliver a high standard of legal services to our clients
- assist with the preparation of court and tribunal documents and other correspondence
- maintain legal files and assist with client enquiries
- manage lawyers' diaries and travel
- ensure administrative procedures such as client billing and reporting comply with relevant AGS requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • at least 2 years' legal assistant experience
- a genuine commitment to deliver high quality client service and a professional approach
- good attention to detail and organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks at once with accuracy
- good judgement and the ability and willingness to take on a variety of tasks
- well-developed written and oral communication skills
- an interest in undertaking training and development to learn new skills
- good technical skills in Microsoft Office suite as well as legal practice software systems such as Mattersphere, Elite, iManage, Desksite or Filesite
- the ability to be flexible and work as part of a team.


Senior Legal Assistants (APS5)
As a Senior Legal Assistant, you will
- train, develop and mentor other legal support staff under the guidance of the Legal Support Manager
- take on new and complex requests, identifying opportunities to improve processes
- be a role model for junior staff members
- provide high quality legal and administrative support to lawyers in Dispute Resolution
- use your excellent Word and PowerPoint skills to prepare documents and to draft correspondence
- maintain legal files
- ensure administrative procedures such as client billing and reporting are completed efficiently and comply with relevant AGS requirements
- have a proven ability to work well in a team
- provide all-round legal support and assistance to Dispute Resolution when required.

This role will suit an experienced and highly efficient senior legal assistant who has:

  • at least 3 years' experience providing high quality legal support to multiple lawyers in a fast-paced legal practice
- excellent client service skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage key relationships with internal and external clients
- demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities
- advanced technical skills in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint as well as legal practice software systems such as Mattersphere, Elite, iManage, Desksite or Filesite
- excellent written and oral communic
