The School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Newcastle is committed to excellence in education and healthcare.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Technical Officer to join our Professional Staff team and play a vital role in supporting our staff, students, and stakeholders.

As a Technical Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of high-level clinical skills laboratory support and administration within our School.


Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Senior Technical Officer to plan and organize Simulation Learning sessions effectively.
  • Preparing laboratory equipment and resources for Simulation Learning Environment (SLE) teaching sessions.
  • Setting up, dismantling, and cleaning laboratory resources and equipment as required.
  • Supporting Clinical Educators in delivering simulation using a range of technical simulation equipment.
  • Monitoring and recording stock levels of consumables and notifying the Operations Manager of stock requirements.
  • Receiving and unpacking consumable deliveries and maintaining stock control.
  • Identifying and reporting faulty equipment to the Operations Manager and arranging necessary repairs.
  • Maintaining an accurate equipment inventory, supervising lending and return of equipment.
  • Providing timely support to Clinical Educators, including troubleshooting hightech simulation equipment failures.
  • Reporting issues and incidents in the Nursing Simulation Learning Environment, maintaining incident reports according to university policies.
  • Ensuring adherence to Work Health and Safety policies and guidelines in Simulation Learning Environment situations.
  • Communicating any disruptions or concerns related to the Simulation Learning Environment to the Operations Manager.


This HEW 4 fixed term position is part time 3 days per week Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8.00am until 3.30pm based at Callaghan Campus with travel to the Central Coast Campus when required.
