Body+Soul, Australia's number one health and wellbeing media brand, is looking for a talented Deputy Editor to join our team in an exciting new full-time role.


A trusted source for 20 years, Body+Soul is a national publication appearing every weekend in The Sunday Telegraph (NSW) Herald Sun (Vic) Sunday Mail (QLD and SA) Sunday Tasmanian and Sunday Times (WA), with a rapidly growing audience across digital and social.


What's the role?

  • Generate fresh, engaging and newsworthy story ideas with a solid understanding of how they will succeed across Body+Soul's print and digital platforms
  • Work closely with the Editor in Chief to implement the Body+Soul brand vision and major editorial initiatives
  • Liaise with PR and celebrity agencies to secure exclusive cover stories
  • Write clever, creative headlines, intros and coverlines that appeal to our national audience
  • Commission freelancers and regular columnists and edit content for each weekly print issue
  • Oversee the design, subediting and production stages for the print product, and liaise with team members to ensure deadlines are met in a smooth, stressfree manner
  • Track and manage editorial budgets
  • Work with the art department to organise talent for photo and video shoots
  • Represent the brand at industry and media events

Who are you?

  • An experienced journalist and multiplatform content creator with a passion for health, fitness, wellness, news and breaking trends
  • A highly experienced Deputy Editor or senior section editor who thrives working to weekly deadlines
  • A natural leader with a proactive attitude and an ability to spin innovative ideas into great stories relevant to the Body+Soul audience
  • A seasoned trend spotter, with a finely tuned radar for what's making waves both globally and locally
  • Someone who is unfailingly calm and positive, with strong experience managing and mentoring junior writers, plus a keen eye for detail, tone, consistency and quality
  • Selfmotivated and able to work collaboratively with our creative, editorial, advertising and production teams
  • The ability to manage weekly deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards, and be unflappable under pressure
  • Experience working across print, digital and social to create outstanding multiplatform content is essential. Knowledge of InDesign preferable
