Neurophysiology Technician

About the role:


John Hunter Hospital Neurophysiology Technicians undertake Electroencephalography (EEG) for patients between 0-100 years old, perform nerve conduction studies, evoked potentials, vestibular function testing and support a busy botulinum toxin clinic.

We work closely with adult and paediatric neurologists from John Hunter Hospital and John Hunter Children's Hospital.


Where you will be working:


This role is embedded within the neurology department at John Hunter Hospital, a busy teaching hospital servicing inpatients and outpatients for a large geographical region.

We are the only public neurology service within HNE, and from Newcastle to the Queensland border.

Our neurophysiology service currently employs 3 technicians working across adult and paediatric services, and we are looking to build our ambulatory EEG and vestibular testing services, in particular.

About you:


Additional Information:


  • Bachelor of Medical Science or other qualification and/or other experience deemed equivalent.
  • Experience performing neurophysiological testing, including EEG, in the paediatric setting, including infants Demonstrated experience of working in a public teaching hospital Neurophysiology department as an independent Neurophysiology technician.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing Neurophysiological tests including EEG and nerve conduction studies.
  • Current NSW Driver's License.
  • An eligibility list will be created for future temporary part time vacancies.

Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.


To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
