The Role

The Legal Counsel provides technically excellent, risk aware and commercially sensible legal support to the business.

This role supports the RLA business and involves advising on life insurance, superannuation, financial services and general corporate & commercial matters.

Sitting within the Legal Chapter and reporting into the Head of Legal.


The primary purpose of the role is to be a member of a highly trusted, efficient, insightful, and commercial Legal Chapter which provides expert and strategic legal advice to the business and management.

Some of the things you will be accountable for include:

  • Advising on financial services law (life insurance and/or superannuation) and general corporate & commercial matters (eg transactions / contract negotiation).
  • critical and analytical thinking, meticulous attention to detail, positive interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to prioritise and manage competing demands.
  • Performance and outcome driven with a "can do" attitude. You show resilience, drive and commitment with the ability to work effectively in a constantly changing and fast paced team environment.
  • Effectively communicate with senior management/stakeholders around key legal issues and potential risks to the Resolution Life business
  • The ability to work independently but also collaboratively within a team

What you bring:

  • Experience in and familiarity with financial services law, life insurance law, superannuation law and general corporate & commercial matters.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical understanding of applicable regulatory requirements and legal practices.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate, influence and engage a broad range of senior internal and external stakeholders to drive business outcome.
  • Australian legal qualifications and a current Australian unrestricted practising certificate.
  • Strong understanding of legal issues in financial services.
  • Good understanding of the Australian insurance and superannuation industries.
