  • $116,399 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation

A little bit about us

The

International Aviation, Technology and Services Division is responsible for providing policy, regulatory and program functions in support of the Government's oversight of Australia's aviation and airports sectors.


The Division's work includes international as well as domestic elements, and involves working closely with portfolio agencies, airline and airport operators and other stakeholders.

The functions span a wide range of topics including aviation safety, airspace and air traffic management, future technologies, economic regulation, airport planning and development, environmental management, Australia's participation in ICAO and bilateral international air services agreements.

The International Aviation, Technology and Services Division comprises the following Branches:

  • Safety and Future Technology Branch-
  • International Aviation Branch-
  • Western Sydney Airport Regulatory Policy BranchThe

Safety and Future Technology Branch is responsible for providing policy advice on General Aviation and airspace issues, and coordinating the Government's response to emerging technologies such as drones. The branch also supports the Minister's role in governance and oversight for Airservices Australia, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).


The branch's key activities and responsibilities include: Agency Engagement and Emerging Aviation Technology Programs, Flight and Airspace Policy, and National Emerging Aviation Technologies Policy.

The opportunity we have available

At least one ongoing EL1 role is available in the Flight and Airspace Policy Section. Applicants from this process may be used to fill future vacancies across the branch.

What will you do?


The role will include providing supervision and leadership to junior team members and representing the branch and department in stakeholder engagements.

Experience in policy development is essential. Experience in governance processes, and/or financial analysis is highly desirable.


The key duties of the position include:

  • Leading a small team;-
  • Policy development and analysis;-
  • Drafting advice to Government;-
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, and collaborating to develop policy and manage programs;-
  • Preparing reports, submissions and strategic papers;-
  • Analysis of legislation and financial data; and-
  • Monitoring and evaluating policy and program effectiveness.
What do you need to be successful in this role?

In order to be successful for this role you will need to demonstrate you can:

  • Adapt to change, demonstrate resilience and be able to deal with ambiguity;-
  • Analyse and interpret complex and sensitive information from a variety of sources to make evidence‐based, defensible decisions;-
  • Communicate clearly and with influence, through the preparation of high-quality analysis, advice and communications materials to inform Ministers and Departmental Executives; and-
  • Provide leadership to a small team, work collaboratively in a team environment, and contribute to the strategic leadership of the broader section and branch.
