About This Opportunity

The position provides excellent service to students and academics of UQ. The position holder will work within Library Student Experience. Library Student Experience provides front line services to students and academics supporting all their library and information needs.

Library Services Officers are vital to the delivery of the mission of the Library and the University.

Position holders contribute to a positive client experience; support teaching, learning and research at the University as appropriate to the team.

The position holder may move between different teams in the Library due to variations in service demand.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing information and advice on library resources, UQ systems, services and support.
  • Assessing client needs, including students' I.T. issues, and providing effective solutions or referring them for specialist assistance where appropriate.
  • Carry out rostered shifts as required.
  • Identifying, reporting and following up on maintenance or repair issues in Library spaces.
  • Providing high quality printing/copying services by checking machines; refilling paper and toner; managing consumables and spare parts to ensure that stocks are at sufficient levels to meet demand and are stored appropriately; responding to equipment faults and failures and escalating specific technical equipment/software and ongoing issues to the manufacturer for resolution; and managing the student printing account database and instigating transactions refunds after investigating and verifying the claim.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and agility in order to assist with library services across all library operational activities and sites as required.
  • Contribute as an effective Library team member including participation in planning, activities and the delivery of team goals.
  • Identify and contribute ideas and input towards continuous improvement of systems, processes, procedures, policies and work practices. Seek and develop new skills and ideas and take part in learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to the compilation of procedural documents, and the review and improvement of existing procedures and online information.
  • Participate in the implementation of change initiatives intended to improve the Library's services.
  • Undertake other work as directed by the Associate Directors or the Director or nominee, consistent with the skills and knowledge required of the position commensurate with HEW levels 2-4 (including but not limited to project work, maintenance of library facilities / equipment as required).

Secondary duties include:

  • Full lifecycle information resource provision and management including creation, ordering, processing, uploading, invoicing etc. Information resources may include but are not limited to learning resources, eSpace content, digitized objects, electronic and print materials. Trouble shooting any issues for clients or with suppliers.
  • Creating, editing, maintaining and deleting library and/or institutional records.
  • Assisting in the development, preparation, publication and maintenance of Library documentation and statistical reports. Supporting Library practices associated with compliance and reporting.
  • Supporting, supervising, and acting as escalation point for colleagues. This may include training, coordinating workflows, quality assurance, and managing small projects. Resolving routine and nonroutine issues, escalating as appropriate.
  • The position holder will cooperate with team members and Library staff, sharing relevant information and seeking information from others as required.

The position reports to the Client Experience Assistant Manager depending on the location/service.

The Library

The UQ Library makes information and environments accessible, for teaching and learning, research, inspiration, and enjoyment. The Library aims to equip students for success in a complex information society and digital world.

There are 11 libraries across UQ which are busier than ever, there were 6.33m visits to UQ Libraries in 2021.

A recent master planning project has demonstrated the need for more and improved study spaces. Digital collections and services continue to be in high demand, and our research support services are sector leading.


About You- Completion of a relevant diploma and relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
