Role:


  • Leading teachers perform a dual role that encompasses providing leadership broadly to the college by taking responsibility, together with the Principal class, for the college meeting its vision and strategic plan. As well as this general role, leading teachers take responsibility for improving the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce and manage a significant area or function within the college.
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Leader will lead the STEM team across both campuses.

The STEM Leader's role is to improve student learning by leading the design and implementation of a STEM program for the college encompassing curriculum for Years 7-12.

He/she will assist teachers to implement the STEM curriculum in their classes and manage the STEM domain.

The STEM Leader will have a teaching load and model good teaching practice, open their classrooms for observations for other teachers, conduct observations of classroom teaching and provide feedback to teachers.

Leadership Role at VUSC

  • Work with the Principal team to provide leadership and modelling of college values across the college
  • Attend and actively contribute to Leadership and all other relevant college meetings and events
  • Adopt college teaching and learning practices in your own classroom and model these to other teachers
  • Contribute to professional learning at the college
  • Conduct performance reviews of a number of staff
  • Deputise for the Principal team as required
  • Other duties as directed by the Principal

Responsibilities:


To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility listed below.

Specific Duties

  • Work with the Data Leader to gather, manage and interpret data pertaining to STEM programs and assist teachers and leaders to read, analyse and implement changes to classroom practice as a result of the data analysis.
  • Lead the design and implementation of an innovative STEM program for the college encompassing curriculum from Years 71
  • Ensure that innovative uses of technology are incorporated in the program.
  • Design the curriculum for Years 710 to lead directly to VCE Computing, VCE Systems Engineering, VET Information, Digital Media and Technology, VET Electrotechnology Studies and VET Integrated Technologies.
  • Ensure that accurate and appropriate assessment practices are incorporated into the curriculum.
  • Ensure students are provided with opportunities for active learning and applied learning as part of the program.
  • Promote the STEM program to students, parents and the wider community.
  • Work with the Careers team to promote STEM career pathways to students.
  • Conduct staff professional learning in STEM as required.
  • Lead and organise regular Domain Team meetings.
  • Ensure course descriptions are documented, updated, posted on Sharepoint and available for teachers in the Domain.
  • Arrange for the preparation and documentation of exams for each year level which are consistent across the campuses.
  • Provide support for the Curriculum Leader in guiding and implementing curriculum.
  • Support the implementation of the Victorian Curriculum within the Learning Domain.
  • Assist leadership with the monitoring and evaluation of teaching practices.
  • Assist leadership with the monitoring and evaluation of support programs.

Team facilitation responsibilities:


  • Plan and facilitate regular team meetings focused on discussion and evaluation of student growth.
  • Schedule meetings, develop meeting agenda and keep team on task.
