Your new job
The Youth Peer Researcher will work on a new study within the Suicide Prevention Research Program at Orygen.

The key task will be to recruit a Youth Advisory Group (YAG) to aid the study team using lived experience perspectives.

This role will also use lived experience to assist with participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, and communicating study results to the public.

Reporting to Research Fellow in Suicide Prevention, you will:

  • Lead the recruitment of young people into the project's Youth Advisory Group (YAG).
  • Assist young people in the YAG to ensure meaningful and supported participation.
  • Project management of YAG activities, including but not limited to, organising meetings, developing materials and facilitating YAG sessions as required.
  • Review research materials to ensure they're comprehensive and engaging for their intended audience.

You are passionate, energetic and determined to make a difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for young people.

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:


  • Aged between 18 and 30 years for the duration of their employment term.
  • Personal lived experience of having had a close family member attempt suicide when aged between 15 and 25 years.
  • Capacity to problem solve effectively, engage with and work creatively in partnership with young people.
