Job Details:
The Database Administrator will be contribute towards database platform design, optimization and operational support, in addition to providing SQL level model and query support towards software development teams


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Database Administrator will be involved with all phases of Oracle and SQL Server database platform and software development process including platform architecture and design, risk assessment, evaluation of third party solutions, query reviews, change scheduling, release, documentation and importantly support.
  • Work closely with software developers for designing, implementing, testing and deploying optimized database designs and queries.
  • Involved with moving data between databases, implementing database patches, developing scripts to perform various functions on the databases we support, and will be involved with problem resolution of both development and production databases.
  • Installation, patching and maintenance of database platforms, including new environment commissioning.
  • Work across both Windows and Unix environments with a variety of database tools
  • Help design and create SQL reports with stored procedures, Crystal Reports and SAP Edge if necessitated
  • Participation in testing including facilitation to resolve issues.
  • Ensure adequate security measures are in place to maintain integrity of systems
  • Highly proactive ownership of operational issues and support tickets from identification through to resolution
  • Responsibility for operational support of Oracle and SQL Server in a rotated third line support environment from software engineering.
  • Always seeking continuous improvement of maintenance practices to enhance overall team productivity
Minimum Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related technical field, or attained product level certification with acquired experience

Skills/Experience/Knowledge

  • Minimum of 5 years MSSQL database experience in structured operational and software development environments
  • At least 3 years Oracle database administration experience
  • Excellent SQL writing skills, including the ability to handle the different dialects of SQL as used by Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, etc
  • Working knowledge and experience with SQL Server
  • Sound knowledge of Unix and/or Windows operating systems as position requires to ensure reliable operational fault diagnosis
  • Ability to solve complex problems in the development of computer software systems
  • Strong verbal, written communications and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers, and technical and nontechnical persons

Desirable:

  • Oracle RAC, Dataguard, MySQL
  • Knowledge of financial transaction clearinghouse and related functions

  • Ability to work both autonomously when required and productively within a crossfunctional team environment
  • Responsible, organised, logical thought process.
  • Positive attitude
  • Willing to work extended hours where required
