About the position


The Level A research only academic is expected to contribute towards the research effort of the institution and to develop their research expertise through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to the particular field of research.


The position is located in the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre within the School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport.

The research focus of the Centre is to increase sport and exercise medicine knowledge through excellent collaborative research and translate knowledge to policy, practice, participation, health, and wellbeing.


About the project


A Research Officer is required to assist with clinically based research (e.g., participant recruitment, clinical data collection, data management) across one or more clinical trials related to the management of knee injuries, pain and osteoarthritis.


These studies include:


The SUPER Knee study is randomised controlled trial investigating the effect of different exercise programs for individuals after knee reconstruction.

SUPER Knee is funded by a NHMRC project grant:
SUPER rehabilitation RCT for young people with old knees.


The BRACE study is a randomised controlled trial investigating the effect of a knee brace on pain, function, and quality of life in individuals with persistent pain after knee reconstruction.


BRACE is funded by a NHMRC Investigator grant:
Reducing the burden of osteoarthritis in young adults.


Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in a healthrelated discipline (e.g., physiotherapy, podiatry, exercise science, biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and dietetics, nursing, medicine) and evidence of participation in higher level study relevant to discipline or professional area.
  • Evidence of experience in research and evaluation and the ability to work effectively under limited supervision or independently.
  • High level organisational skills including effective time and workload management, problemsolving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds in a cooperative and collegial manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a cooperative and collegial manner.
  • Demonstrated high level of selfmotivation and personal management skills.
