Description

Reporting to the property owners and consultant viticulturalist, this role involves the day-to-day operation of the vineyard and management of the property on which it is located.

Job Requirements


Experience required:

  • Experience operating vineyard machinery (or similar) is essential.
  • Experience maintaining agricultural machinery and general property maintenance would also be desirable.
  • Detailed viticultural knowledge would be highly valued but not essential due to ongoing liaison with our consultant viticulturalist.
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised (please provide references)
  • Broader farming experience in other agricultural industries will also be highly valued.

Hours:

  • Full Time Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day including lunch break.
  • Certain aspects of this role may need to be conducted outside of regular hours when weather and other conditions are suitable.

Tasks:
You would be responsible to carry out day-to-day tasks, including (but not limited to):

  • Spraying fungicide and undervine herbicide, including the ordering of chemicals and farm supplies
  • Slashing
  • Foliage trimming
  • Irrigation repairs and maintenance,
  • Trellis maintenance
  • Organisation and management of crews (who undertake tasks such as desuckering, wire dropping/lifting, pruning, hand picking and other manual tasks).
  • Harvest support (including organising/booking the harvester, forklift hire and chaser drivers if required)
  • Ordering of PID water supply and carrying out irrigation schedules
  • Ensure assets including plant and equipment are kept secure and in good order and repair
  • General property maintenance
  • Record keeping (diary of vineyard operations undertaken, employee hours and spray records)

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Chem Cert (can be acquired prior to spray season)
  • Forklift license (can be acquired prior to vintage)

Professional Development:

  • We encourage the vineyard manager to attend relevant local viticultural training and education (e.g. workshops, field days and more formal training).
