About the opportunity


NSW Health Pathology are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Hornsby Ku-ring-gai pathology team as a Permanent Full-time Technical Officer.

You will be an integral part of the team helping facilitate all laboratory operations in our busy multidiscipline 24/7 laboratory servicing the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital and greater Hornsby region.

The pathology department at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a Category B laboratory run by NSW Health Pathology. We work directly with our Category G Laboratory at Royal North Shore Hospital.


We are looking for someone who is passionate about health and supporting the community, is dedicated to providing a quality service and someone who wants to learn and develop their abilities and share their knowledge with the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai pathology team.

What you'll be doing

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services within a discipline relevant to the department, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems
  • Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations
  • Customer focused approach displaying welldeveloped interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers and patients as well as clinical laboratory staff
  • Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities
  • Demonstrated recent experience in at least three of the following: Biochemistry, Haematology, Morphology, Transfusion, Microbiology or Specimen reception.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases
This is a Category A position.

All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy.

All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

All NSW Health workers are required to have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, as defined by NSW Health. Employees working in a clinical area or are required to attend clinical areas are considered category A.

Category A positions are required to provide evidence of having received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (TGA) and meet the requirements of the Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy Directive.

You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
