The Role
The position requires an inspirational, highly motivated and experienced educator whose vision, commitment, and
enthusiasm for student academic care will guide the development of a strong intellectual, physical, social and
emotional foundation for our students in our Senior Phase of Learning (Years including the International
Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) and ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS) Senior Secondary Certificate.

The Assistant Director of Academic Care (Senior Phase of Learning) (SPL) reports to the Director of Senior School
(Learning and Innovation) who is responsible for leading and developing a strong teaching and learning program
and the delivery of the curriculum through quality teaching. The Assistant Director role has oversight of the
pastoral and academic care of a particular stage of a student's education journey through the Senor School so
will work closely with the Director of Senior School (Student Care and Experience) and the Director (Academic
Administration).

The Assistant Director of Academic Care (SPL) will lead appropriate interventions and opportunities to create a
learning community where each student feels valued and connected. The Assistant Director is a member of the
pedagogical leadership team whose responsibilities include the evaluation, management and implementation of
all curriculum, teaching and assessment programs in the school and the pastoral team in the leadership of the
pastoral and wellbeing programs. Their role also encompasses the promotion of senior secondary certification
options and working with the Head of Careers and Tertiary Pathways to assist students to be prepared for and
choose appropriate pathways.

Teaching Load:
It is expected that this role will teach the equivalent of two senior classes Involvement in

the co-curricular program is a requirement of this role

Remuneration:
An attractive leadership allowance comes with this position

Reports to:
Director of Senior School (Learning and Innovation)

Due to the nature of this role, out-of-hours work will be required. The Assistant Director will be required to
maintain a degree of flexibility in work hours, which is reflected in the remuneration of this role.

Responsibilities:


  • Academic Care
  • Working with the Senior School Directors and middle leaders, build on the Schools' strong academic and
pastoral programs to ensure a supported, challenging and stimulating academic progression for all
students.

  • Under the leadership of the Senior School Directors, and in conjunction with the Heads of Faculty,
oversee the planning, delivery, assessment and evaluation of all SPL curriculum, including the IBDP and
BSSS.

  • Under the leadership of the Directors, address specific student academic concerns relating to the
assessment and teaching programs in the SPL for students and their families.

  • Liaise with the relevant staff from Inclusive Learning and Enrichment, the Heads of Faculty and Pastoral
teams (including the School Counselling team) to support students and ensure that the learning needs
of all students are being met.

  • Monitor student progress and meeting with teachers, students, and parents to discuss academic or
pastoral concerns.

  • Regularly brief the Directors on any students at academic risk or circumstances that may warrant grade
estimates or status.
