About the School

Kelvin Grove State College has a temporary vacancy for a dedicated, motivated and passionate Deputy Principal (Special Education) for Semester 2, 2023 with the possibility of extension.

This position is known locally as Deputy Principal (Inclusion).
About the Role


As Deputy Principal (Inclusion) you will:

  • lead the development and promotion of an inclusive culture and practices within the P-12 college community, ensuring equity and excellence for students experiencing barriers to learning, especially those with a disabling condition;
- develop and support a high quality of teaching and adjustments for students experiencing barriers to learning in accordance with related legislation and policies;
- improve the educational outcomes of all students, especially those with a disabling condition; and
- nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders.

As the Deputy Principal (Inclusion) you will have responsibility for:

  • articulating and committing to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality inclusive learning outcomes for all students;
- assisting the Executive Principal and Heads of School to lead the school community through the ongoing implementation and refinement of a revised whole-of-college approach to inclusive education;
- collaboratively and strategically leading an interdisciplinary team comprising the Head of Department (Inclusion), Head of Department (Learning Enhancement), Year Level Inclusion Coordinators, Special Support Coordinators and Teacher Aides to delivery responsive support to students and classroom teachers;
- implementing and coordinating school-wide systems including data systems to monitor students with disabling conditions and record the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability;
- being futures oriented and strategic, particularly in relation to the Department of Education's Equity and Excellence vision and Inclusive Education policy;
- understanding the legislation and policies that impact on schooling especially in relation to students with a disabling condition;
- managing the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the Inclusion Department to achieve identified goals;
- forming partnerships with parents, other government agencies, community groups, industry and business;
- embedding socially just practices in daily school life;
- setting high standards for student and staff performance; and
- actively participating in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.

The Deputy Principal (Inclusion) is accountable to and under the direction of the College Executive Principal.
