About us

The Victorian Legal Admissions Board (the Board) is a statutory body established under Division 1 Part 3 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014.

The Board determines the eligibility of persons for admission to the Australian legal profession and issues compliance certificates to the Supreme Court of Victoria upon which it may admit a person as an Australian Lawyer.

It also accredits and reaccredits academic law courses and practical legal training providers.
An integrated secretariat has been established to support the work of the Board.
About the role
The position of Compliance Officer is responsible for administrative services within the Board. The incumbent will be expected to rotate through a range of responsibilities, based upon the needs of the Board. Responsibilities assigned will relate to the activities of Board and its Committees.
The role is full-time ongoing, based in the Melbourne CBD working in a hybrid model.


Key accountabilities include:


  • Understand and interpret concepts, policies, rules and legislative requirements to applicants regarding requirements for admission to the legal profession in Victoria and provide quality assurance and continuous improvement to ensure best practice is maintained throughout the operations of the Board.
  • Work collaboratively to identify and implement improvements to operational procedures within the office and members of staff.
  • Proactively build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in the legal profession for the purposes of promoting the work of the Board and to gain cooperation in relation to change proposals.
  • The Compliance Officer will initiate, build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including supervised workplace trainees, law firms, overseas applicants, academic institutions and education institutions.

The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal.

This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).


Acceptable evidence includes:


  • COVID19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
  • Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
