About the role


We currently have two positions for Officer, Indigenous Student Education - one for the Higher Education Portfolio and the other in the Vocational Education Portfolio.

In this role you will work with the

Ngarara Willim Centre


and ensure engagement and support is provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education, Postgraduate and Vocational Education students.


The Indigenous Student Education Officer (x2) will support Higher Education and Vocational Education porffolios and will do this by building strong purposeful links with communities and students and by working collaboratively and in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

This role supports the retention, progression and successful completion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

We are after someone who can commit to the role for the longer term and is happy to work on campus.

The majority of the work includes providing advice and support to students
- connecting them with academic supports, housing and financial supports, providing opportunities for students to engage in social and cultural activities, assisting with the organising of global opportunities.

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

  • Knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an understanding of community needs, particularly the educational and personal support needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport with staff, students and the community and a demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Proven ability to access, to tailor and deliver information effectively to a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven strong organisational skills; sound analytical and problem solving skills, and a capacity to improve administration processes to improve efficiency.

Desirable:

A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.
