Reporting to the Editor the Audience Growth Editor's primary focus is executing the strategy to drive audience growth on the Herald Sun.

A dynamic new role, it will be responsible for the sustained digital growth of the Herald Sun by defining and driving the audience strategy.

Highly analytical and creative, the Audience Growth Editor will be an influential leader in the newsroom.


What's the role?

  • Work closely with the Editor to agree, develop, articulate and execute local editorial digital storytelling and distribution strategy based on audience and content insights
  • Work with Deputies, News Directors, Digital Editor, News Desks and the Content Led Growth team to embed audienceled digital storytelling into daily work, cadence and content
  • Execute growth strategies alongside SEO and Social leads, setting and meeting audience growth strategies across all channels
  • Lead optimisation of stories; eg sells and social headlines, photographs, links etc
  • Lead optimisation of discoverability of content offplatform; eg newsletters, social media etc
  • Foster strong newsroom ties and coordinate with the Editorial Innovation Centre to ensure maximised use of specialist areas (SEO/Social, Video etc) and embed the analytics so the reporting needs of the newsroom are met
  • Lead the monitoring and interpretation of the performance of content, delivering feedback to the Editor and relevant teams
  • Develop and experiment with ways to reach new and younger audiences
  • Be a leader in the newsroom, working sidebyside with the editors and reporters to deliver audience outcomes and activities
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders; eg Product team to ensure homepage and article page health

Who are you?

  • Proven leader with strong track record of delivering audience growth
  • Eight years experience in an Editorial role OR experience in growth and marketing, preferably within the media industry, including the development and execution of growth campaigns
  • Deep understanding of and passion for journalism and digital storytelling
  • Strong industry knowledge and awareness in channels and formats
  • Dataminded
  • Excellent stakeholdermanagement skills and comfortable communicating and presenting
  • Experience in delivery of specific organic and paid growth strategies across social media, newsletter, podcast and web
  • Experience managing budgets, including accounting for spend, and reporting on performance of campaigns
  • A demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects in a fastpaced and deadlinedriven environment.
