What you will be doing:


An exciting opportunity is available for a qualified Medical Physics Specialist to join the Radiology Services team at Nepean Hospital.

In this position, you will provide a high quality, efficient and effective medical physics service to Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine/PET Department at Nepean Hospital, acting in the roles of the Radiation and Laser Safety Officer of the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

The Medical Physics Specialist will lead the NBM LHD Medical Physics Quality Assurance program including:

  • Reviewing and monitoring the design of work areas and required shielding
  • Providing dose monitors and reports,
  • Supervision of the safe storage, transport and disposal of radioactive waste
  • Provide support for all imaging modalities.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed:


  • Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) Certification in Diagnostic Imaging Medical Physics (DIMP). Hold a current NSW EPA license to use ionising radiation apparatus and radioactive substances.
  • Demonstrated recent experience working as a Medical Physics Specialist in a health setting
  • Has demonstrate an ability to work with Universities for education and research.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with little or no supervision in all areas of DIMP.
  • Demonstrate a track record in commissioning imaging and nuclear medicine technology and implementing new treatment planning and delivery techniques.
  • Demonstrated high level communication and organisational skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues, patients and members of the public on radiation issues; including the ability to analyse and compile comprehensive written reports on radiation safety matters.
  • Evidence of initiative and ability to prioritise amongst competing service requirements, and willing to work flexible work hours (early or late) at times, as required.
