The Opportunity
Here at Telethon Kids Institute our vision is simple - happy healthy kids.

Our Bioresources Team is state-of-the-art with a PC2 facility for breeding, holding and experimental animals, particularly rats and mice.

These animals are used by our researchers in their mission to improve the health, development, and lives of children through excellence in research.


We now have an opening for a Bioresources Technician to join this dedicated team and provide excellent quality animals for research whilst ensuring the highest standards in breeding and animal welfare.


Reporting to the Bioresources Manager, you will work in a small, yet dedicated team whose passion is the welfare of the animals in their care.

You will support our researchers in their work by providing an optimal environment for the production of high-quality animals used for medical research whilst contributing to a positive work environment and culture.

Your duties will include but not be limited to.

  • Daily care of breeding and research animals including animal husbandry, breeding colony maintenance, environmental monitoring, record keeping, welfare checks and facility sanitation.
  • Assist in the logging in and unpacking of incoming animals from other institutions.
  • Operate autoclave, cage washer and any other animal facility Or Lab Services equipment as required.
  • Assisting in the training of researchers.


This position will be offered as a full-time role with the following shift pattern:7.5 hrs Monday to Friday plus weekend roster including public holidays.


About You
***The ideal applicant will be an effective team player and have previous experience working in an animal facility. You will have knowledge of breeding systems and animal husbandry and understand the importance of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.

  • Along with this the ideal applicant will also be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Being a strong team player and work effectively in a small team.
  • Physical fitness and capability which will allow manual work.
  • Sound administrative skills and computer literacy.
  • Being able to work in a fastpaced environment.


Conveniently based at Perth Children's Hospital, this role is full time and offered for 3 years in the first instance.
