About the role


We are seeking a Crisis Support Worker who will provide an after-hours crisis response to Women and Families escaping Domestic/ Family Violence within the Northern Sydney District on a casual basis.


The service operates in the evening between 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, providing both telephone and face to face support to Women and their families escaping domestic and family violence.

Casual staff work from an after-business hours roster that includes evenings and weekends.

Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under s14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)
.

Duties

  • Promote a 'riskaware' culture where staff proactively identify, report and address all forms of risk to clients, staff and CatholicCare.
  • Provide ongoing safety planning and crisis support services to clients who are at risk.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all stakeholders including managing and reporting all incidents, following organisational policies for mandatory reporting, child protection, safeguarding and WHS
  • Screen the suitability of individuals and families accessing the service and making referrals to other services, where appropriate
  • Assist and engage with client's in crisis requiring emergency accommodation
  • Collaborate with other service providers and local community groups and provide community education.

Skills & experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate area e.g., Degree in Social Work, Degree Social Science/ Welfare, Degree in Psychology/Counselling, or related discipline and/or demonstrated relevant industry experience;
  • Demonstrated understanding of domestic/family violence including knowledge and familiarity with legal and other aspects of DV, child protection and custody issues;
  • Detailed knowledge understanding and experience with housing issues, effective individual case management, undertaking assessments, developing & reviewing case plans, knowledge of mental health and strengthbased support;
  • Counselling experience/skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A current valid, Australian driver's licence and insured vehicle
