Data Governance Analyst is accountable for driving the data management capabilities to empower our stakeholders with trusted, well governed and secure data. To achieve this, the Data Governance Analyst will work with the Data and Analytics team to help establish the framework, then work with business and technical stakeholders to identify and define critical data elements, assess and implement data quality controls, and help embed effective data management activities across Shell Energy.


To succeed in this role, you will be a highly motivated, collaborative and outcome focussed professional with experience and understanding of the complexities of managing data governance with data platforms and pipelines.


With honesty, integrity and respect, you will:

  • Establish frameworks, policies and standards for data within the Data Platform;
  • Work with the technical team, the business analysts and business stakeholders to implement artefacts to track data lineage, data quality;
  • Identify gaps in data quality and data risk, and provide strategic remediation recommendations; and
  • Facilitate data governance education and awareness across both the Data Engineering team and business stakeholders.

What you'll bring
Here's what you'll need to thrive in this role:

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills as well as a firm grasp on the latest technology trends globally;
  • Experience defining and implementing data governance and compliance strategies;
  • Exposure to data quality, data lineage and data security principles;
  • Exposure to data governance and catalogue tools;
  • Understanding and experience with data warehouses and data lake development;
  • Innovative and questioning nature to explore ideas and prototype solutions;
  • Experience coaching technical teams and stakeholders to ensure adoption of data governance processes;
  • SQL experience;
  • Experience in the analysis of both business processes and the design of technology based solutions;
  • Data Modelling experience will be highly regarded;
  • Previous experience in energy industry systems and processes and experience working on Digital products, and energy systems will be highly regarded;
  • Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills required; and
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
