About the role:

The Physical Training Unit is located at the Victoria Police Academy, View Mount Road, Glen Waverley.

The unit's primary purpose is to deliver both theory and practical physical training to Police and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) as part of their foundation training program.

Your duties will include:


  • Team leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of exercise professionals, providing guidance, training and fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment.
  • Program Development: Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive exercise program tailored to diverse populations targeting careers in policing, ensuring the activities and information aligns with current exercise science principles and in accordance with Australian Skill Quality Assurance (ASQA) requirements.
  • Client engagement: Interact with stakeholders to understand, assess, and advise on fitness needs, and tailor strategies to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Continual Education: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in exercise science, incorporating evidencebased practices into program development, and facilitating ongoing staff education.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders and crossfunctional teams, to create structures and strategies that best support desirable program outcomes.
  • Performance Tracking: Implement systems to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, regularly analysing data to make informed adjustments for improved outcomes.
  • Facility Management: Oversee the efficient operation of exercise facilities, ensuring equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Organisational Outreach: Engage with the broader organisation to support a fit and healthy workforce through workshops, seminars, and events to promote exercises and healthy lifestyle benefits.
  • Zero-Harm: Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing is a critical priority in exercise program planning and overall management of workspace environment, necessary to meet legal obligations under OHS legislation.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Tertiary degree qualification in Applied Exercise/Sports Science and/ or Masters (Exercise/Sports Science).
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in exercise program management.
  • Prior experience working in Tactical Strength and Conditioning would be to advantage.
  • Professional certification in either ESSA (Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, High-Performance Manager) or ASCA Level
  • Highly developed and proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Proficient in utilizing technology for program design and data analysis People management experience.
  • Project management and delivery experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of an accredited exercise physiologist who practises ethically, collaboratively, and innovatively within the scope of practice of university qualified health professionals.
