The Role

The Assistant Director Web Projects leads a team of professionals delivering web projects, services and expert advice to internal stakeholders, building organisational capability via the creation of optimised web user experiences.

The Assistant Director works closely with content owners distributed across Defence to providing direction on audience engagement strategies and steering the delivery of enterprise web solutions.


They will have the ability to understand user needs and business objectives, aligning operational activities in order to translate them into user-centered web experiences.

The Assistant Director will harness information and opportunities to improve the user journey and the user experience of web audiences.

They will contribute their expertise to the continuous improvement of the enterprise web environment via the provision of exceptional customer service, governance and training that guides the efficient and effective delivery of digital initiatives.


About our Team

Enterprise Web is in the Enterprise Transformation Branch in the Enterprise Transformation and Governance Division Enterprise Web is a team of web experts, including web designers and developers, web content and audience engagement strategists, and web content publishers.

The team works collaboratively and with a mindset of continuous improvement to optimise the user experience of Defence websites and support efficient delivery of web communication.


The Assistant Director will be a confident leader of people, capable of managing difficulties, celebrating successes and building a culture of inclusion and respect with their team.

They will have extensive experience in digital technologies, a passion for user research and digital design, a commitment to web standards, the ability to develop information architecture and produce content, and experience with wire-framing and prototyping digital solutions.


The Assistant Director will be responsible for proactive data monitoring and analysis, in order to provide evidence-based strategic insights and recommendations regarding content performance, search engine optimisation, quality assurance and standards compliance.

They provide strategic and operational leadership related to the governance and efficient management of the immense Defence enterprise web environment.

They have the opportunity to positively influence both the internal and external customer experience.
