Junior School Music and Performing Arts Teacher (ELC-5)

Position Junior School Music Teacher (ELC-5)***Status Part-time ongoing position (approximately 0.5FTE teaching, with additional

time for Music ensembles)
Reports to Head of Junior School
Works with Head of Music (6-12), Junior School staff, Arts staff

Role description
The primary responsibility of the Junior School Music and Performing Arts Teacher is to develop a love of and
aptitude for Music and the Performing Arts in children from the ELC to Year 5. They excite and interest students in
musical, dramatic and movement activities and facilitate each student's learning and achievement in Music and
Performing Arts by purposefully designing learning opportunities utilising a range of appropriate learning, teaching,
feedback, and assessment strategies, appropriate to age, stage, and student needs. The Junior School Music and
Performing Arts Teacher is highly organised, collaborative, and fosters a learning environment that enables each
student to achieve their potential.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General

  • Support the Anglican ethos of the School.

  • Be a member of and actively contribute to the Junior School team.
  • Ensure knowledge and implementation of School policies and procedures.
  • Be an active member of relevant professional organisations and engage in relevant professional learning.
  • Teach Music and Performing Arts in the ELC and Junior School.
  • Participate in the School's cocurricular program.
Learning and Teaching

  • Create and maintain a safe, positive and organised learning environment that fosters the development of
resilience and independence for children.

  • Prepare and deliver a highquality Music and Performing Arts teaching program, in line with the
requirements of the Australian Curriculum and IB Primary Years Programme, and incorporating elements of
drama and movement.

  • Employ a range of strategies to differentiate learning and teaching, in response to a range of data about
student learning.

  • Develop and implement appropriate feedback, evaluation and assessment strategies and procedures,
including providing prompt, timely, and meaningful feedback on student work.

  • Ensure student learning is documented.
  • Share continuous feedback on student work via a variety of communication platforms.
  • Utilise a range of information and learning technologies to enhance learning, teaching, feedback and

- assessment.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum as part of a collaborative team.
  • Assume responsibility and concern for the welfare of all students within the class.
  • Develop a safe and supportive classroom (and school) environment by reinforcing and following the school
behavior management policy.

Contribution to the School Music Program

  • Conduct the Year 23 Junior Choir, the Year 45 Concert Choir, and the band immersion program.
  • For choirs, concerts, musical showcases and the ELC5 Christmas Concert, select engaging and
appropriate repertoire and manage the event.

202- Organisation and Administration- Maintain relevant records and documentation including accurate and up to date records of student
- assessment and progress.
  • Prepare and write reports in line with School assessment guidelines.
  • Adhere to all work health safety regulations in line with legislative requirements.
  • Assist with the organisation of relevant school activities and attend as required.
  • Attend relevant meetings and functions including staff meetings, parent teacher interviews and meetings as
required.

Professional Excellence

  • Attend staff professional learning activities as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • Manage sensitive information carefully, skilfully and only as needed to ensure confidentiality is maintained.
  • Model an exemplary standard of professional conduct at all times.
  • Participate in the school's program of professional review.
Communication

  • Work in collaboration with the Head of Music
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with colleagues, including communicating with Junior
  • School staff and families about Music happenings.
  • Communicate with conductors, accompanists and Music tutors.
  • Engage in appropriate communication with parents as required.
  • Contribute, as appropriate, to news articles, Yearbook and other publications.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential

  • University qualifications in teaching and education.
  • Uptodate, relevant knowledge of Music learning and teaching.
  • Capacity to conduct one or more choirs.
  • Arts event management experience.
  • A high level of competency in information and learning technol
