The Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) is Australia's museum of the sea, exploring our relationship to the oceans, rivers and lakes around us and diving deep into the rich maritime heritage that binds us all.

The ANMM is committed to sharing the national maritime story across Australia and providing a must-visit museum experience.

The museum prides itself on providing quality, innovative programs for families with children aged 0-14 yrs.

Reporting to the Programs Coordinator, you will be responsible for engaging children and families in public programs activity areas including _Kids on Deck _or _Mini Mariners_ programs, and in facilitating interactive family experiences such as our summer interactive playscape _Octopus Garden _and the _Great Southern Lego Reef_ build.

Your main responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Facilitating interactive exhibitions and family programs including art making, play activities, performances, and opportunities to lead costumed tours, kid's parties and creative workshops.
  • Facilitating outdoor activations such as ocean science tours and underwater drone workshops.
  • Working as part of a team with other casual family programs staff.

Key Selection Criteria:


  • Demonstrated experienced in working with children OR studies in Early Childhood or Primary School education.
  • Flexible schedule and the ability to commit to working the Summer school holidays
    21 December February 2024. Availability during school term including Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays or Sundays will also be favourable for any ongoing work opportunities.
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Experience in working as part of a team
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to use creative arts or performing arts to enhance the learning experience of program participants
  • Keen interest in/ study background in the arts, ocean sciences or education.
  • Must be physically fit as job involves set up and pack up of equipment for programs. Some lifting required.
  • Senior first aid qualifications (desirable but not essential)
  • Must be flexible and innovative in your approach to program delivery, prepared to respond and adapt to changing circumstances

  • Casual work
  • Minimum 4 hour call out between 8.30am 6.00pm.


  • Pay rate $29.0

  • Pay rate for Team Supervisors $30.10
