The Role
This role's unique value add is to architect, manage and drive the overall strategy for individual products and whole product classes (brand-agnostic) end to end, ensuring product healthand insurance risk is well managed, in line with long term P&L and capital position of each product.
This role defines the strategy, vision, design, development, configuration of individual products and whole product classes (brand-agnostic), ensures delivery of new/enhanced insurance products, tailored to specific customer / partner needs and informs the brand/ segment portfolio management in terms of product performance and (long-term) product health.
This role is pivotal in delivering a customer centric individual product/ whole product classes (brand-agnostic) whilst coordinating complex product management decisions and reflecting strategic market shifts/ customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product lifecycle and define the product strategy
- Own the vision, performance ('health'), and development lifecycle of individual products and 'whole product classes' (e.g. Home, Motor, Property, Agri) agnostic of brand, channel, segment
- Own product risk management to ensure all products are in keeping with the IAG Risk Appetite Statement, Design and distribution obligations and other regulatory requirements.
- Identify and call out systemic issues across brands & product classes
- Take ownership of product, including features, attributes, enhancements, extensions, underwriting rules, policy documentation and governance
- Recommend product, service, distribution and underwriting responses to improve margin from trends and emerging risks
- Support portfolio / customer growth and retention targets through ongoing monitoring/ responses across value chain
- Highlight potential issues with scalability / sustainability of intended solution / growth pathways (e.g. sustainability of discounting)
- Ensure adherence to customer needs in product and process requirements
- Manage Product interlocks across value chain (e.g. Marketing, Group Tech)
- Monitor product lifecycle and prepare launch and exits (informs tradeoffs)
- Ensure overall risk compliance of individual product(s) and whole product class(es)
Skills & Experience
Required Experience:
- Extensive years of Product Management experience in a complex, large scale insurer or financial services organisation, preferably in direct consumer lines
- Track record of designing, developing and launching new products in market to support Product Management objectives
- Deep understanding of product pricing, underwriting and assurance principles, including ability to engage technical SMEs on relevant pertinent product challenges
- Understanding of quantitative insurance prduct (performance) metrices and advanced strategic interpretation capabilities
- Understanding of Financial Services Regulatory landscape, with ability to converse effectively with Risk, Legal & Compliance colleagues on risk & regulatory issues
