The Role
The below roles are available within Access Operations Branch:

  • Team Manager / Team Lead
  • Business Manager
  • Project Manager


As an Assistant Director you will be accountable to perform and achieve complex to very complex research, analysis, business management, project management or operational tasks to support the collection, production and dissemination of signals intelligence including the ability to provide effective leadership and technical advice within an integrated workforce.


You are accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes.

This includes the ability to develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team and business performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement.


Assistant Directors are required to actively manage key stakeholder relationships and identify relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes.

They will also be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and the professional development of their staff and broader work area.

They will be expected to exercise people management skills and knowledge to build and lead high performing and cohesive teams.


Assistant Directors are also responsible for contributing to or coordinating sensitive projects that will produce a positive impact on the strategic, political or operational outcomes for the Australian Signals Directorate.

Access Operations branch consists of multiple operational and technical teams who consistently deliver world class outcomes for the Australian government and community to find innovative solutions to enable ASD access operations.


We are looking for team leaders who can think critically, can communicate with both technical and non-technical people, want to continue learning and developing their own skills, and are passionate about mentoring others.


Some key duties of the position include:

  • Demonstrate effective leadership and management functions to support staff and meet operational requirements.
  • Manage the day to day operations of a team of access analysts, empowering each member to perform at their best.
  • Provide change management expertise to support the successful implementation of innovative working methodologies.
  • Work collaboratively and engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • Prioritise competing tasks and manage resources appropriately.
  • Assess risk and escalate matters for appropriate mitigation or action.
  • Contribute to determining work taskings and projects that align to the section and branch's strategic objectives.
  • Independently manage and resolve personnel, resource and/or operational issues.
  • Exercise a considerable degree of independence, sound decision making, accountability and judgement in support of operational requirements.
  • Exercise good judgement, excellent interpersonal skills and proficiency at managing sensitive issues.
  • Value and respect diverse views and be fully committed to building a positive and productive workplace culture.
