W Sydney, opening waterfront and centre on Darling Harbour in October 2023, is now casting for a vibrant Event Sales Manager, responsible for conversion, contracting and closing of all meetings, conferences, incentives, events (including residential, social and weddings), conventions and exhibitions.

From initial handover of the enquiry from the proactive sales team to conversion and onward seamless transition to the Event Planning team, to reach maximum profitability and client satisfaction, in line with W Hotels and Marriott International's brand standards with support from the Director of Events.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join W Sydney's pre-opening team.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

With support from the Director of Events, primary responsibilities for the Event Sales Manager include:

  • Representing the W brand in all sales activities in line with W Hotels and Marriott International's corporate strategies.
  • Responds to incoming event and catering opportunities for the hotel.
  • Identifies, qualifies, and solicits new events and catering business to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals.
  • Understands the overall market, competitors' strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply, and demand etc. and knows how to sell against them.
  • Closes the best opportunities for the hotel based on market conditions and hotel needs.
  • Uses negotiating skills and creative selling abilities to close business and negotiate contracts.
  • Executes and supports the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposals, writing contracts, customer correspondence).
  • Interacts effectively with sales, kitchen, vendors, competitors, local community, catering associations and other hotel departments to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Develops a close working relationship with operations to ensure execution of strategies at the hotel level.
  • Executes exemplary customer service to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty by assisting the customer and ensuring their satisfaction before and during their program/event.
  • Serves the client by understanding their needs and recommending the appropriate features and services that best meet their needs and exceed their expectations, while building a relationship and loyalty to the company.
  • Gains understanding of the hotel's primary target customer and service expectations; serve the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, to offer better business solution both prior to, and during the program/event.
  • Monitors the effective resolution of guest issues that arise as a result of the sales process by creating mechanisms to channel issues to property leadership and/or other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Undertake and arrange Insider Tours for clients as required.
  • Identify, execute, and implement promotions, strategies, and special events within the sales client remit.
  • Be fully versed across all relevant Marriott International loyalty programs to maximise business opportunities for W Sydney.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned, to meet business needs.
  • Support the Marketing team on attendance of, and promotion to, clients to W events and programming which are scheduled in line with the annual marketing plan and expectations of the W brand team. These will be on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis to enable both brand and PR goals to be met.
  • Be an early adopter and champion for innovation, as the W brand has been since inception, to deliver and exceed budgeted revenues for the hotel, channel engagement and enhanced guest experience.

TALENT PROFILE

Education & Experience Required

  • Higher Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Business Management and/or Hotel/Tourism Management.
  • Minimum two years' experience in an event/sales environment within an International Hotel Chain.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and Microsoft Office skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
