About the Role


Reporting to the Production Coordinator and Depot Manager, the purpose of this position is to perform a range of activities including; examination, servicing, maintenance and repair on suburban train fleet vehicles to ensure as far practicable the safe, reliable and on time running of the train fleet.


Some of your key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake safety procedures
  • Perform Examination tasks
  • Check and repair Fleet Air and Break systems
  • Perform train modifications as required
  • Check and service coupler and electrical equipment
  • Service Fleet Rotating machines
  • Perform duties in accordance with Metro's Quality System
  • Participate in multiskilled training and activities for which you are deemed competent
  • Ensure tasks are performed to approved standards and instructions
  • Attend to fatalities, derailments, collisions, pantograph entanglements and other mishaps involving trains
  • Record and report work performed
  • This position is based at our Newport Maintenance Depot
About You

To be a successful applicant for this position, your profile must adhere to the following requirements:
Education and Certification

  • Relevant trade qualification (Dual Mechanical/ Electrical trade preferred)
  • A valid Australian Drivers Licence
Should you be successful you must obtain and maintain:

  • Certified in Track Safety Awareness (Level 1)


  • TTSA

  • Train Track Safety Awareness (Level 3)
  • Rail Safety Competency and Medical Assessment (Category 3)
  • Qualified First Aid Level 2

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience within a maintenance environment
  • Demonstrated expertise within either a rail/ automotive and/or avionics environment
  • Flexibility to varying shift which includes the weekend and public holidays as required
