An opportunity exists for a leader experienced in management of a professional services practice to join the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) as National Practice Manager (NPM).

The NPM is a critical role in AGS that leads the provision of services to a large national legal practice and supports the Australian Government Solicitor in the formulation and execution of the strategic objectives of AGS.

About the role

The NPM reports to The Australian Government Solicitor and has significant responsibility for driving the success and growth of AGS.

Working with senior practice leaders, the NPM plays a key role in setting and helping achieve AGS's financial and service delivery goals and leads the delivery of critical business services to AGS.


In this role you will be responsible for:

  • effective operational leadership across AGS and interaction with other parts of the Attorney-General's Department
- in conjunction with others, ensuring that services meet client expectations and that risk and compliance requirements are managed
- working with the finance team to manage AGS's financial position
- helping identify and developing new ways of delivering legal services
- generating high trust in relationships (internal and external stakeholders)

About you
- significant national management experience in a professional services context
- a good understanding of the Commonwealth legal environment
- a record of innovation and improving performance in business or a business-like environment
- strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
